Conviction of Sin

It is common to hear a new Christian talk about themselves being convicted of sin. What is a conviction of sin? Most people would think that it is simply a matter of having a guilty conscious from all the bad things that he/she has done in their lives. I know when I first accepted Jesus into my heart, I felt very guilty over things that I’ve done in my own life. There is more to conviction of sin than that though. Conviction also is not those feelings that you deserve to be punished for all of those bad things that you have done. It is also just not a matter of knowing wrong from right.

So we know what conviction isn’t. It’s time to tell the truth of what conviction really is. And that is just it….the word convict itself in means to convince someone of the truth. Imagine yourself in a courtroom. On one side, you have the prosecutor who tries to convince the jury that the defendant is guilty while you have the defense attorney on the other side. That is like life, you are in the world’s courtroom with Satan trying to convince you that you can do whatever you want to and that is right. Then you have God who is trying to convince you that you can’t just do anything because there is a right way to live your life and that is through Him. Satan is in hell and he wants to bring as many people as he can with him. He will lie, deceive, tempt, etc. to convince a person that is it is okay to sin. God, however, He will try to convince you that He is the way to eternal life in heaven simply by telling you the truth.

Since I’ve accepted God as my Lord and Savior, I know that I have been convicted of my sins. I see the truth in His love. He came into my life at a point where literally I felt like I was losing everything and everyone that I care about. Though I felt like that, I simply woke up and realized that people may come and go from my life but He would still be there with me standing by and loving me as only He can. Being convicted of sin, I see the truth in how I was lost without Him. Many times we want to live our lives as we want but if we truly want to be happy we need to just give our lives over to God and let Him guide us. For me, I want to be a person that God can be proud of as parents would be for their children. I may have had an earthly father who I love very much though he’s in heaven now but at the same time I also have a Heavenly Father who loves me so much that He gave His only son to die on the cross for my sins. That simple fact was enough to convince me that I needed to give my life over to Him. I am so happy that I have. It is the greatest feeling knowing that someday I will get to live in heaven and experience God’s love forever.

God Bless Everyone!!
